Saint St. and the world around us...

The personal musings of Chris Lohman

Wired contributor Liu talks about his comfort level (and success) in supporting Kickstarter projects; his thoughts juxtaposed with the discomfort he feels when fundraising for his child’s school. The first is cool and fun. The latter makes us all cringe and feel bad about the state of times surrounding school funding.

Kickstarter should open up a channel for innovative school and/or social projects. Why not? A little funding might fuel grand, macro results. If Kickstarter can launch an iPod watch, it can make an actual difference in our lives too.

Social media blows my mind. Not because like you I spend most of my “hobby” time playing with it, but it is proving to be such a profitable biz for those who do it right, whether genius or just plain lucky. Flabbergasted and jealous and in awe I am…as I post this to tumblr, which auto-posts to Twitter and probably ends up on my Facebook wall. I can’t really remember because I’m lost in all this amazing and refreshing fun. Now if only I could come up with a brilliant idea, partner with coder friends I don’t have and build a massively successful business with VC money I’m not sure where to ask for, my hobby time could turn into something Zynga would buy for $210MM. Or I can keep typing this and just enjoy this diatribe experience. I guess I will stick with what I know.
